Coldwater Seafood Corporation Avoids Damages

Coldwater Seafood Corporation of Cambridge, Maryland, installed 11 Lucid Load units on the north end of its plant. When the facility experienced what was believed to be a major voltage sag, the unprotected south end sustained considerable electrical damage, including failed transformers, burned-out refrigeration motors, damaged motor-starter coils, and refrigeration system failure. The protected north end sustained no damage, even though it typically drew 10 to 20 times more power than the south end.

According to Coldwater, the Lucid Load units protected the motors and transformers, prevented a loss of temperature in freezers containing 5 to 6 million pounds of fish, reduced north-end demand by 40 to 50 kW, and helped avoid an estimated $6 million to $8 million in damage.
